How to Change the Font on WhatsApp Web

WhatsApp Web ships with one font. One size. No options. If you've ever squinted at a chat on a 4K monitor, or wished the interface used something other than the default sans-serif, you've already hit the limit of what WhatsApp Web lets you do out of the box.

The fix is a Chrome extension, and the workflow is genuinely simple. Here's how to change both the font family and the font size on WhatsApp Web in 2026.

Step 1: Install the Extension

If you don't already have it, install WhatsApp Web Customizer from the Chrome Web Store:

Step 2: Open the Typography Tab

Click the WhatsApp Web Customizer icon in your browser to open the popup. You'll see the main settings panel.

Click the Typography tab.

This is where everything related to text — font family and font size — lives.

Step 3: Change the Font Family

Inside the Typography tab, you'll find the font family selector. WhatsApp Web Customizer ships with over 500 fonts, plus the option to upload your own font file if you want something the extension doesn't include by default.

Pick one. The change applies in real time — no reload, no save button, no fiddling. Switch fonts as often as you want until you find one you like.

A few suggestions if you don't know where to start:

Inter — clean, modern, works well at small sizes
JetBrains Mono — monospaced, useful if you exchange a lot of code snippets

Step 4: Adjust the Font Size

Right below the font family selector, you'll find the font size adjustment.

Slide it up if WhatsApp Web text feels too small on your monitor. Slide it down if you'd rather fit more conversation on screen at once. The change is instant.

This is the kind of feature that sounds small but matters enormously once you have it. The default WhatsApp Web font size is calibrated for a generic mid-2010s laptop screen. If you're on a 27-inch 4K display, a small ultrabook, or a phone-style narrow window, the default is almost certainly wrong for you.

A Story About How This Feature Got Built

The font size feature wasn't always part of the extension. Here's how it got added — because it's a small thing that says something larger about how WhatsApp Web Customizer is built.

Back when the extension had around 20 to 30 users total, someone filed a feature request through our form. The request was specific: add font size adjustment to the Typography tab.

We shipped the feature the same day. The new version was submitted to the Chrome Web Store, accepted by Google, and went live shortly after.

We mention this because it's the difference between an extension that exists and an extension that's actively listening. With most browser extensions, a feature request from a user with a 20-user product would sit in a backlog forever — if it got read at all. We don't operate that way, and we don't plan to.

Your Changes Stick

One detail worth calling out: your font and font size changes are saved inside the extension itself.

That means if you reload WhatsApp Web, close the tab, restart your browser, or restart your computer, your changes don't disappear. The extension remembers your settings and reapplies them automatically the next time WhatsApp Web loads.

You don't need to log in, sync, or back anything up. It just works.

Resetting If You Want to Go Back

Don't like your changes? Inside the Typography tab, there's a Reset option. One click puts WhatsApp Web back to its default font and size. You can experiment freely — there's no risk of getting stuck with a setup you don't like.
