Why We Removed the Colors Feature from Our WhatsApp Web Extension
April 29, 2026 — Not every feature deserves to stay.
Sometimes, improving a product means removing things—not adding more. That’s exactly what we decided to do with the colors section in our WhatsApp Web extension.
Here’s why.
The Origin: Built for Fun, Not for Need
When we first created the extension, the colors feature came from a place of creativity.
It allowed users to:
- Apply color effects to message bubbles
- Add lighting effects to chats
- Experiment with visual customization
At the time, it felt like a fun and unique addition. But there was one problem:
It wasn’t built based on real user demand.
What Users Actually Told Us
As we collected feedback—especially through uninstall surveys—a clear pattern emerged.
Users consistently mentioned:
- The interface felt too distracting
- Color effects weren’t useful
- Some wanted these effects completely removed
Instead of enhancing the experience, the feature was doing the opposite.
It created friction.
The Data Was Clear
We didn’t just rely on opinions—we looked at actual feature requests.
And the result was striking:
Not a single user had asked for colored message bubbles or lighting effects.
That was a turning point.
The feature existed because we thought it was cool—not because users needed it.
The Decision: Remove It Completely
So we made a clear and intentional choice:
👉 We removed the entire colors section.
No partial fixes. No hidden toggles. No compromises.
This included:
- Colored message bubbles
- Chat lighting effects
- All related UI elements
By removing it entirely, we simplified the product and eliminated unnecessary complexity.
What We Focus on Now
With the colors feature gone, we can fully focus on what actually matters to users.
The extension is now centered around:
- Clean display options
- Background customization
- Better typography
- Quick replies
- Core productivity features
Everything we build now follows one principle:
It must solve a real user problem.
A Better Approach: Build on Demand
We’ve changed how we think about features.
Instead of guessing what users might like, we now:
- Listen to real feedback
- Analyze actual usage patterns
- Build features only when there is clear demand
This ensures that every addition improves the experience—rather than complicating it.
Want Colors Back? Tell Us.
If colored message bubbles or lighting effects are something you truly want, we’re open to it.
But this time, it will be different.
We’ll only bring features back if:
- Enough users request them
- They solve a clear need
- They can be implemented cleanly and intuitively
You can submit your ideas anytime through our feature request form.
Why This Matters
By removing features that don’t serve users, we:
- Reduce friction
- Improve usability
- Prevent unnecessary complexity
- Lower uninstall rates
Most importantly, we stay focused on delivering real value.
Try the Simpler, Faster Experience
If you’re tired of bloated tools and unnecessary features, this extension was built for you.
It’s designed to be:
- Lightweight
- Focused
- Easy to use
- Driven by real user needs
Give it a try and experience a cleaner, more intentional way to use WhatsApp Web.
